On opening morning, Roger flipped on the sign for his newest pop-up. It read, "Stand-In Agency. A noun cannot make it? will fill in!"
But the booth was empty. "Hello? Somebody? Anybody?" Roger called. No noun came. He needed Nelson, but Nelson had overslept again.
A kid walked up with a long name. "No problem," Roger said. "Tell the name, and I'll shrink it." He wrote down a short pronoun and slid across the table.
Then a platypus waddled in. "You waited in line, so get the next pronoun," Roger said, handing a fresh one.
Finally Nelson rushed in, yawning. "Sorry, Roger. fell back asleep." Roger grinned, because now every pronoun had a noun to point at. "Stick with , and the booth runs smooth," he said.
By noon, the kid and the platypus came back happy. " love the new pronouns!" they said. Roger rang up and waved as walked off.
Other kids have filled in this story too.
