The Antecedent Clarity Desk
Roger has set up his newest pop-up, the Antecedent Clarity Desk, where he edits any pronoun that will not name its noun. Fill in the missing pronouns and see whether the con man can really go straight.
Roger is auditing your slip one last time. Finish up and he'll read it back, pronoun by pronoun, every one naming its noun.
Your story is ready. Here is what Roger read.
Tap or hover over any blue-gray word to see what kind of word you chose.
Roger's sign read, "Clarity Desk. We'll do it for half what nouns normally charge."
A client slid over a sentence whose pronoun could mean two people. " floats," Roger said. "Name the noun stands for, and I'll clear . Now points at one person."
Next came a look-alike pair. "Ownership, so the team kept captain. The other means it is, so a long season."
A platypus held up a shiny pronoun. "Whose? It's not yours, and it's not his or hers or even theirs. It's mine! But can rent it, if names a noun."
Then Nelson stopped by. Roger did not argue. "You were right. Every pronoun points back to now."
By closing, every floating pronoun had a noun behind . Roger eyed the desk that was finally, honestly . "Turns out," he said, "I need clarity more than ever did."
Other kids have filled in this story too.
