Vinny is Grammaropolis's caped action hero. Tonight a thief has slipped aboard the Midnight Express with a stolen ruby, and only Vinny can catch the train before it leaves the city. Some blanks ask for an -ing form (ongoing action) and some ask for a past participle (already finished). Fill them in so the timeline holds.

The Midnight Express thundered through Grammaropolis with a jewel thief hiding in the last car, and Vinny had been chasing it on foot for nearly a mile. By the time he reached the rail yard, he had already three fences and across two narrow bridges.
The thief was from window to window, clutching the stolen ruby. Vinny remembered that he had faster trains than this one, so he refused to slow down. He had been alongside the caboose for several minutes when he finally the iron ladder and swung himself up.
On the roof, the wind was his cape straight back. For one proud second he had into the night sky like a true hero, and then he snapped back to the mission. By now the thief had the emergency brake and was toward the coupling.
Vinny had every trick in the book, so he simply the rope he had been the whole time and it around the thief's boot. The train hissed to a stop. The passengers had been the whole rescue from their windows, and now they cheered until the platform shook.
