Once a year, Benny lowered the drawbridge of his maximum-security vault and let the whole town view his rock collection. Visitors lined up before sunrise. "When did you last see my rock collection?" Benny asked each guest , handing out white gloves.
"Walk , touch nothing, and admire everything. Are we clear?"
"Very!" the visitors answered.
The platypus, the newest member of Benny's squad, dusted the geode case . The tour began , and the guests gasped loudly at the amethyst shelf.
Then the platypus sneezed. The prize geode wobbled, rolled off its pedestal, and cracked open .
"Steady, rookie," Benny said. He knelt beside the broken halves and went quiet. Inside, purple crystals sparkled than any rock in the vault.
The platypus polished the two halves , and Benny carried them for the whole line to see. "Of every viewing day in vault history," he announced, "this one turned out the ."
