Connie arrived at the precinct Chief Comma finished the paperwork. "We booked a comma splice," said the Chief, "two complete thoughts, no joiner." Sheriff Semicolon tipped his hat from the doorway of his own department.
The run-on slumped in the chair refused to talk. "Relax," said Connie, "I fix the join, the marks are theirs." She studied the splice the relationship finally surfaced.
"This one is a contrast," she announced, she slid a but into the gap. The sentence sat up straight the officers nodded. the suspect was leaving, Connie eyed his outfit. "Neither your jacket nor your tie looks good on you."
Chief Comma filed the report Sheriff Semicolon locked up. The precinct exhaled, the run-on read clean. The Chief grinned stamped the file. The Sheriff waved he left, everyone agreed the join said exactly what it meant.
