On a soft gray morning, Lucy the Linking Verb walked down to the canoe dock at Lake Grammaropolis. The water smooth and still. "The lake = calm," Lucy said. "And calm = good."
Connie paddled up in her purple canoe with two life jackets. "Come aboard!" she called. Lucy climbed in slowly, and the little boat wobbly for a moment.
Out on the water, gray clouds rolled in. The wind smelled . The waves grew . A row of ducks nervous. Even Connie a little worried.
Lucy did not paddle, and she did not panic. "I'm all about equality, man," she said. "The lake is the lake. The clouds are just clouds. We safe."
Sure enough, the clouds drifted away. The lake glassy again. The ducks felt once more. By lunchtime, the whole trip a happy memory, and the canoe stayed dry the whole way home.
Connie tied up the canoe. Lucy smiled at the water. "It is what it is," she said, "and that was plenty."
