Early one Saturday morning, Lucy carried her fishing pole down to Lake Grammaropolis and settled onto the end of the wooden dock. The water smooth as glass, and the morning air smelled .
"A fish bites when it's ready," Lucy said to nobody in particular. "Until then, we just are."
Then Jake the Adjective burst onto the dock with seventeen brand-new describing words for the sunrise and a hat he really wanted to discuss. The minnows nervous, and even the lily pads a little jumpy.
"Jake," Lucy said, "let's just sit with that for a minute."
So Jake sat. Slowly, the lake calm again. The silence downright . Even the dragonflies slowed down to watch. By noon, Lucy's bucket perfectly empty, but nobody minded, because the day itself the real catch.
When the sun finally set, the sky turned , and the two friends completely . "See?" Lucy said. "The lake = . It always was."
